USS Constitution

We are really enjoying being in Boston and finding free dates!
So I am starting a series on free dates in Boston.
I call it, the Free Dates in Boston Series.
SUPER clever right?

The first on our list is the USS Constitution.
It is so cool! And totally free.

Tours are every 30 minutes or you can do a self guided tour but only of the top deck.
We opted for the 30 minute one and went below.
This little lady is the oldest floating war ship in the world!

It has been in 33 battles and survived them all. Talk about Lucky.
We had a great little history lesson and saw the gun deck and sleeping quarters.
This is a great family outing too - we brought our Sweet B with us and she loved it!

All is all, the USS Constitution is well worth a visit.
Completely free and completely awesome!
Visit the ship's website for times and visitor information.

Cupcakes

When your husband/son/brother (any male you know) was a kid did he go to bed with his favorite toy? Or maybe piece of sports equipment? Hubby's family has told me that he would go to bed with his basketball.

It's cute when they're boys.

Not so cute as married men.

Hubby works at a tennis club and is working on becoming a professional tennis player. And because of that, he feels the need to constantly practice.

Even at home.

Even at night.

Even in bed.

I kid you not. This guy has come to bed with his tennis racket and played "air tennis".

He's not allowed to do that anymore.

Anyway, we had a great date tonight!
We went to this adorable little cupcake shop in Newton, MA.

(Image sources: here here and here)

It was seriously darling! I want to decorate Sweet B's room like this place now.
Striped pink walls. Black and white tile floor, and multicolored light fixtures.
There were lots of cupcakes to choose from and even frozen yogurt.
Hubby got banana and I ordered a baby chocolate.

So glad we found this little gem!
Date night for less than $5 - SCORE!

Photo Shoot

For our date today, we had a little family photo shoot!
My wonderful neighbor from Something Swanky took them for us.

While we were up there it started raining! We had to pack up everything and go sooner than we expected but it was still fun to get some pictures with my two favorite people.
We even took some in the rain just for kicks and giggles.

I have to be honest here people. When Hubby and I look in the mirror, I don't think we are an ugly couple....
But whenever I see a camera, something happens.
I don't know what it is.
My eyes shrink, my cheeks triple in size and don't even get me started on my thighs.
Apparently, I don't know how to smile either.
Anyways, lets just say pictures can be deceiving.
At least thats what I am telling myself.

But on a completely different note, this date is totally FREE!
Just grab some props from home, and a friend to take the photos.

Pinterest is crawling with photography ideas that I just love.
Hubby wasn't too excited about a lot of them but I did convince him to do a few.
Before your shoot, find a few poses that you want to try.
Or have an awesome photographer who will help you create them like we did!
Thanks Ashton!

A few posts ago I mentioned that we are moving.
Now that we have an apartment all ready to go, I think its safe to announce the location on the blog.
We are moving to BOSTON!
I am so excited!
And sad.
Our whole life together has been here in Virginia.
We met here.
Dated here.
Had our baby here.
Have amazing friends here.
Virginia really is for lovers.
But I am so excited to start a new adventure in Boston! I am sure that there will be tons of opportunities for FREE dates up there. I have never been so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know!

Wish us luck on our move!
I may have a few more posts from Virginia but look forward to dates from the Boston area in a couple weeks!

S'mores Night

Have I mentioned the fact that I have awesome neighbors?
Because I do.
True story.

The other night as we were getting in to bed we noticed our lovely neighbors building a fire outside.
That can only mean one thing:
S'mores!
Who doesn't love a s'mores night? It was kind of a spur-of-moment thing and one by one fellow neighbors trickled out of their apartments to join the fun.
It was a fantastic way to end the evening. There is nothing like gathering around a fire roasting marshmellows while watching fire-flys fill the night sky.
Aaahhhh.....I just love Virginia.
And my neighbors...
And date nights...

Chalk Night

When was the last time you drew with chalk?
And I don't mean your kids.
YOU.
Me? It's been awhile.

So....I decided to pull them out and leave some love notes for my Hubby.
I was surprised at how easily entertained I was.
I love chalk!
I thought it would be fun for Hubby to come home to a different kind of "welcome".
I wrote on everything. The sidewalk, the stairs, the railing and even our parking spot.
No missing these love notes!
Try it!
Chalk costs close to nothing and if you already have some, this is totally FREE!
Leave a sweet message for your Hubby or make a date night of it!
Have a "chalk-off" or something. Get creative!

Happy Dating!

Hill Rolling

Did you ever roll down hills as a kid?
Because I did! And because I did, I thought it would be fun to do it again with my Hubby.

Does this remind anyone else of A Princess Bride? You know, the part when they are rolling down the hill before they enter the fire-swamp? Great movie. Anyways...

It was a lot of fun to do this again but holy cow I got dizzy. I don't know what changed since I was five but I definitely don't remember it hurting my head that much. Ugh, won't be doing that again any time soon.

Dates like this are great if you don't have a lot of time. Hubby had finals last week so we could only afford 10-15 minutes here and there. This was perfect for that!

And FREE people!

So give it a try! Be kids again together!

Fishing

Hubby LOVES to fish. I mean he really loves to fish.
He even went fishing on our honeymoon.
True story.
Since he has this great love of fish, you'd better believe that we have made some date nights out of it.

And you know, its not so bad.
Don't get me wrong. I don't like pulling a hook out of a slimy fishy mouth. But, I don't puke either.
It's just fun being together and I love that it makes him so happy.
And that its super cheap! (Our fishing licence was $18 for a year)

Do you and your Hubby fish? Try it! It makes a great date night!

Baking Together

When Hubby was sick with appendicitis, there were so many people who helped us out. To say thank you, we made cookies for them and decided to make a date night out of it.

Instead of getting a babysitter, we let Sweet B go to town on the dishes. She was happy to play in the water by herself which gave us more one-on-one baking time.

Baking is a great last minute date. If plans don't work out, you can always find fun dates to have at home. Cooking and baking together is one of them and really gives you an opportunity to work together to create something.

Try it! Instead of spending money on a night out, spend the night in and make something delicious together!

Happy Dating!

Ice Cream Sculpting

Most dates we have work out really well. They are successful and fun.
This was not so successful.

Poor Hubby. He tried. He really did.
The date was Ice Cream Sculpting and it was one of his calendar dates.

He thought it would be fun to make sculptures out of ice cream.
Only problem is that ice cream melts. Fast.

Hubby managed to do a cookie-cutter-penguin-thingy but I had zero results.
Don't get me wrong, we still enjoyed time together and eating our melted ice cream. It's just that the original "sculpting" plan was a bust.

So the moral of the story is...do not try this at home.
We tested it for you and it doesn't work.
So considerate of us right?

I will be back with a success story soon. Promise!

Happy Dating!
